Furfural
Furfural is also called furaldehyde, whose molecular
formula is C5H4O2 and molecular weight is 98.08 [ according
to Intl Relative Atomic Weight (1987)].
Furfural is a kind of light yellow to amber transparent oily
liquid with an irritative smell of semen armeniacae amarae.
It will become brown and resinified
under action of air and light and can be dissolved in many
organic solvents, such as ethyl alcohol, alcohol, acetone,
diethyl ether, benzene, and carbon tetrachloride.
Furfural
has many uses: mainly used as selective solvent or raw material
to manufacture other chemicals, such as furfuryl alcohol,
2-methylfuran, oxolane, furan resin and widely used in foodstuff,
medicine and dye industries.
